Remove CM 1200 Lawn Mower Wheel - Retainer Clip on Lawn Mower, Wagon & Carriage Wheels

The small wheels on lawn mowers, carriages and wagons are held onto the shaft with a one-way clip that is pushed over the end of the wheel axle. The thin metal clips are strong and very difficult to pry off with ordinary tools. In this case the retainer clip was in a deep shaft and very hard to access with tools. So I drilled 2 holes into the thin metal clip using a 1/8" inch drill bit. The drill went through the thin metal clip amazingly fast and the clip immediately spread open and released. I used a screw driver to pull it off and it popped off right into my face, so wear a safety goggles.

This obviously is a destructive method, so you want to have a new clip on hand, readily available at hardware stores and lawn equipment service centers.
