This is one of my favorite locks to pick. Tight tolerances, spool pins, and a small keyway can make for a great exercise in pick manipulation. Working the pins up while also using the pick to apply counter clockwise pressure to set pins makes this lock a very fun pick. I am not sure if you can see in the video but the bottom of the keyway is eroded because of this..and it getting a lot of time in the vise. My first 72/40 had to be retired because I enjoyed picking it so much.

Pin 1 is a standard pin and pins 2-6 are spools. Feedback from the spools is distinct and easily felt. I worked from the right side warding for the first few pins but would not suggest working off this ledge because you can run the risk of oversetting the mid pins when reaching for the back ones. For this reason I swapped out to a different pick and worked the high cut pins (3, 4, 6) from the bottom of the keyway. Pin 5 was so low cut that brushing against it while reaching for pin 6 was all it needed to set.
The set order was 3-1-2-4-5-6-3. Pin 3 needed two passes, once to fall off upper ledge of spool and again to set it. I did have to give some of the pins a nudge during the pick to regain my false set. I attribute it to Abus's high quality and tolerances in their manufacturing. Abus really does make some fine locks. Excellent practice picks.
