Poet’s Biography
I live with my husband, two teenage children, and one sweet puppy the color of a perfectly based croissant in Massachusetts. I love to photograph nature (particularly flowers), and read voraciously, by the fireplace in the winter and by the pool in the summer. I blog somewhat regularly and my forthcoming book “Poems and Prayers for the Seasons” is scheduled for release in late 2024.

Poem Description / Inspiration
I spend as many mornings as possible on my deck, coffee in hand, watching the birds and the flowers. One morning I was fretting about leaving my flowers (which I had grown from seed!) while we went on vacation. The poem is the encounter I had, asking the Creator to watch over these flowers, and then a single poppy burst open with a puff loud enough for me to hear. I was in awe at the whole experience!

Poem Text
Alone on my deck,
Surrounded
By tendrils, stems and
Growing
Buds, potential color and
Blossoms, my hard work
And nature’s combined
I worry
Will this effort be lost
To heat or draught
Or any other calamity?
So I pray ask
Can you protect these
Babies
The one who thought up snapdragons
And petunias, who clothes the
Lilies of the fields
Smiled at me and
With the softest puff, a breath
As the golden poppy burst
Asunder, green shell falling
Aside and
All sorts of glory spilled
Across my deck, on me
Alone.
