Matt walks you through how to use an e collar and explains how our methods compare to others. He is using a Dogtra 280x which just came out and is an absolutely amazing e collar.

A lot of people use the vibration as a warning to the dog, but you will notice that we use it very differently. The e collar is an incredible off leash communication tool and it is crucial that you have a way to praise your dog with the collar. If you use it solely as a correction tool you are missing the overall point of the collar.

Once you have conditioned the dog to understand the vibration is a good thing, you can add in the stim function and use it as a correction if needed. Make sure you acclimate the dog properly each step of the way to ensure they know exactly what to do and are not surprised by anything!

We generally use the e collar for off leash come which is sometimes called off leash recall. These words are used interchangeably and you will notice it really just comes down to which phrase a particular trainer prefers. E collars can technically be used for any command, but in our opinion most commands don't need an e collar since the dog is close to you and able to see and hear you.

Some miniature horses make a guest appearance in the video and hang out pretty much the entire time!
