How I sharpen my early lawnmower blades. Back lapping old English Qualcast mower. The method I show you here is called "backlapping" (thats what I call it ) Using car valve grinding paste and driving the blades backwards against the bottom blade is the method I am using. Seems to work a treat. Possible the most boring video I have ever made. But, If you own a Qualcast early model E1 lawn mower, reel mower, probable the most exciting..!
I did not do a practise run for the video, so what you see is how it was.
I had to clip some scenes short to get the video within 15 mins. The actual time I spent was about 20 mins. It looks like this is the only "how to" for this method on this model lawnmower on Youtube. I hope this video from Capneys clips proves helpful. If you consider using this method please be aware that your FINGERS ARE AT RISK of being cut badly. Not happened to me but the risk is there. Be warned. I except no responsibility for any damage done.
The side wheel Qualcast Model E was introduced in the late 1920s, just a few years after the English Derby-based company started to manufacture mowers. It became one of the most popular lawn mowers ever produced in the UK and remained in production until the 1950s. By that time, Qualcast claimed to have produced over two million examples.
Once you have viewed how to sharpen, go see how it cuts by going to "Mower Cam" via this link http://www.youtube.com/edit?video_id=...
