A short 30-second video highlighting a Viscount North America organ with video and sounds from St. Anne's Episcopal in Middletown DE. The Viscount Organ installed there is an American Ouverture 3-manual instrument with expanded audio system, including an antiphonal section. After parting with Allen Organ for almost 50-years and not too long after we signed with Viscount (a very large, growing global company) I had the oppertunity to visit St. Anne's (this video) to look at and play their new organ. Based on many decades of experience with many digital sampled organs, I was surprised the the sound was (in my opinion) better than any sampled organ, fuller, and in general felt and played more like a real pipe organ. Their award-winning technology (Physis) actually creates the pipe sound, with all it's subtleties and pipe /organist interactions - it's refreshingly 'alive'. To be clear, there are many digital organ companies out there, some producing very good-sounding instruments (some not), but it's my opinion that this company's Physis modeling technology is the next step in the evolution of digital tone production. After our separation with Allen Organ, two of our industry friends who represent competeing organ brands strongly suggested that we serioiusly look into Viscount. Many digital piano companies already employ some or complete use of modeling (Kawai, Yamaha, Roland Vpiano, Vdrums, etc.) I found the build quality and console finish of this organ was beyond what I expected. No sharp console corners, and almost 1/4" of solid wood capping on the sides instead of thin 1/32" veneer (typical on many other company's consoles). They actually import the oak from here in the US. Further, the console was lavishly finished in multiple coats of quality lacquer - SERIOUSLY, there is a lot of Lacquer on these organs!! Italy is know for making many quality products - cars, apperal, shoes, motorcycles, and most of all furniture. Italian furniture dominates the interior design market. Plenty of high-end and custom homes select Italian kitchen cabinets, coffee tables, and more. You might think this is a recent trend—but, Italy has been a center for furniture design since the Roman Empire. No wonder the wood consoles from Viscount are excecptional in many ways. Taking a tour through Allen's production facility some recent years back, I remember the plant manager showing and bragging about their new computer-automated sander, made by the Italian company, Viet. Allen has always insisted in using high quality. If it's good enough for Allen Organ, that's all I need to know.
This console is designed around the French Terrace concept and sports keyboards that have a very satisfying 'tracker-like' feel. They appear to be a couple 'cuts' above other company's keyboards. Other keyboard options are available as well including one that is adjustable and uses magnets for both tension and 'tracker feel'. The hand-turned wood drarknobs are a cost-saving LED design, but moving drawknobs are an option (along with many, many other cutomizable options).
Over all this organ is quite impressive. I can say, with all confidence, that they will be the dominating digital organ company in the very near future. By recent reports, they are all over Europe and their continuing sales increase is largely attributed to the increase in the North American market.
