MPHR 72 Nova Windshield Channel, Cowl Sides and Firewall Repair

Описание к видео MPHR 72 Nova Windshield Channel, Cowl Sides and Firewall Repair

This video contains the last of the sheet metal work on the 72 Nova. The front windshield channel was rusted out at the top and a couple of small spots along the bottom. Both cowl sides were badly rusted at the bottom and removing them revealed the inner cowl sides also had rust damage, which I repaired with patches I fabricated. Then I installed the new cowl sides with a spot welder. Lastly, the firewall had damage where a previous owner had made room for an HEI distributor. Keep in mind that this car was built pre-HEI. So the original distributor would have been a much smaller points style. Bashing the firewall with a hammer in the area behind the distributor would have given the clearance for the HEI upgrade. But it left behind some embarrassing dents that the new owner wanted rid of. Consequently, the top of the cowl (below the cowl vent) was bowed upward from the same hammering that made room for the larger distributor. This would have raised the cowl vent in one spot causing a bulge and preventing the hood/cowl from being flush. Now the body is ready for trial fitment and gapping of all the bolt-on sheet metal. Then it can be block sanded and painted.
