New California SB9 Housing Law explained, single-family zoning change

Описание к видео New California SB9 Housing Law explained, single-family zoning change

For more than 100 years, the existing law told its people, you cannot build anything but a single-family home on a particular lot of land. That may soon change in a major way.

According to this new state law, if someone decides to divide their property into two lots, each new lot must be at least 1,200 square feet in size. Also, you cannot use one of these divided lots or units for short-term rentals. It must be rented for a period of 30 days or more. Very important, the new units must only be used for residential purposes and nothing else.

Homeowners have to apply to upzone their properties through the local court. Anyone applying to subdivide their lot must commit to living in one of the units there for at least three years.
