Hanuman Jayanti in West Bengal : Security beefed up, police on high alert

The West Bengal government has announced enhanced security measures ahead of the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, following the recent incidents of violence during Ramanavami. Reports suggest that stones were pelted on Ramanavami processions, and large-scale arson was also reported. The Calcutta High Court has asked the state government to deploy Central forces to prevent any untoward incidents during Hanuman Jayanti.

The government has directed all the district magistrates and superintendents of police to deploy adequate security personnel in sensitive areas to prevent any incidents of violence. The Calcutta High Court, while hearing a petition filed by a social activist seeking adequate security arrangements for Hanuman Jayanti, has asked the government to deploy Central forces in the state to prevent any violence during the celebrations. The court observed that the violence during Ramanavami was a clear indication that the state government was not able to maintain law and order, and that the deployment of Central forces was necessary to prevent any untoward incident.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has described the High Court order as a "slap on the government's face." The party has accused the government of failing to maintain law and order in the state and called for immediate action to be taken to prevent any violence during Hanuman Jayanti.

Meanwhile, the state government has assured the people that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the celebrations are peaceful.
