What defines a Sustainable city ?
& makes it different from a regular city ?

Well, lately, there’s been a lot of talk about "Sustainable city" or "Eco city" or "Green city"

Imagine a world where our cities are smog-free and full of thriving green ecosystems, with more cyclists and pedestrians than cars.

This might seem straight out of a fairy tale.

As part of School’s Summer holiday assignment, of Class 4 , Aavya present to you a model of the Sustainable city.


why Sustainable city ?


Well, with the ever-increasing population and more number of people moving from rural areas towards the cities, every year, It is estimated that the world’s total urban population will double by the year 2040.

Now with such high density of population living in a given limited space and with the limited resources, it become very important that we redefine the way the cities are managed. That’s where comes the concept of a Sustainable city.


In general, a Sustainable city is a city that has minimal environmental impact, protects is natural resources , and yet provides ultra modern facilities like transportation, infrastructure, telecommunications, health and energy.

It aims at accessibility to quality housing, organic food, renewable energy, clean environment, social integration, cultural and educational facilities and public safety.


Seen in the video is a very basic model of a Sustainable city, made using just the cardboards.

In this city, power needs are met using only renewable resources . Here you see

Hydro power plant, Windmill, and Solar panels , which uses Water flow, wind and Sunlight , respectively to produce electricity

There’s also a huge Wastage treatment factory, that recycles all kinds of waste from Metal, plastic and organic. This ensures that none of the city waste goes into the landfill sites.

All the residential complexes have mandatory rain water harvesting set up and solar panels on the top.

There's Wifi enabled public transportation system to enable intelligent traffic management

Dedicated Farming space with cold storage to ensure food supplies are in surplus

Reserved forest for wildlife conservation and bio-diversity


Well these are just a few things that could be covered . There’s much more to making a city sustainable.
