Finance Minister: Singh served as the Finance Minister of India from 1991 to 1996 under Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao. During this time, he implemented significant economic reforms that liberalized the Indian economy, leading to rapid economic growth1.

Prime Minister: Singh became the Prime Minister in 2004, leading the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. He was the first Sikh to hold the office and the first Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a full five-year term1.
