Project Update 2: Finish Kit, Engine Choice, and Next Steps

Описание к видео Project Update 2: Finish Kit, Engine Choice, and Next Steps

An unexpected follow up to the previous project update!

Since no one reads these, I'll spoil the surprise and cut to the chase down here...

Finishing kit has arrived, and inventory begun. Nearly all parts were included with only two gear fairing pieces and a small bag of hardware backordered. Organization has been a task in my limited space, but we're nearly there to all pieces being accounted for and stored in some way.

I also picked up an Airflow Performance boost pump kit that includes pump, filter, mounting brackets, and hardware. Along with that, I picked up an Andair tank switch with no duplex valve.

I knew the above pieces were the correct items because I've also finally selected and ordered an engine: The Continental Titan IOX-370. It'll be a fine power plant--a powerful power plant. This choice offered a huge step up from many of the rebuilds I was looking at, improvements in cooling and power over the Lycoming, and a reasonable price point and wait time.

Speaking with Lycoming last week, wait times for an IO-360 were "greater than 24 months," which didn't suit my timeline.

Avionics have been ordered, and I'm continuing to work with the fine folks at Midwest Avionics to get those items shipped over to me in the next couple weeks. They've been great to work with!

I'm Ryan, an aviation enthusiast who has decided to build his own aircraft and publish the entire process online for others to watch along. If you have ever want to build an airplane, this is a great glimpse at what it takes.

The airplane is a two-person experimental kit built aluminum plane capable of over 200 miles per hour, and a range of over 700 miles. The kit is manufactured by Van's Aircraft, one of the most prolific kit providers on the planet, now embroiled in a Chapter 11 reorganization process in order to prevent bankruptcy ;-). The airplane is aerobatic, functional, and fun. The build is challenging, time consuming, fun and rewarding.
