I made this Tamil New Year wood decor / art.

This project only took a few hours. That's WITH the wood staining and everything.

This is one of those projects where I had to make a decision and roll with it. I wanted to add paint into the carved secions but I wanted to see what I could come up with in one session in the shop.

I'm proud of this one. But I am going to see how this one can transform with some paint.

The process:

It started in my physical skech book.
Then I moved into Photoshop to lock down the fonts and alignments.
The mandala design was from my Diwali Rangoli video. Cool little connection.

Started with an over sized piece of pine and then I coated it with Danish oil.
The masking tape was put down as a mask. My intention was to carve through it. Paint and then peel up the mask for some crisp lines BUT it kept lifting up and ripping. Which is why I abandoned that.

I stained the frame twice; one after the the other. Hit it with a heat gun to help it polyermerize.

All this stuff was done in 1 session in the workshop.
