This is a very personal and heartfelt presentation of the theme from the  classic 1950s British war film ”Reach For The Sky” , the story of WW2 RAF fighter pilot Douglas Bader.

Bader lost both legs in a flying accident in 1931 , and was told that if he survived he would probably never walk unaided again let alone fly ....well as history knows that with dogged determination he went on to fly both Spitfires and Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain and at the time became a truly inspirational hero to many.

The film ”Reach For The Sky” was made in 1956 and starred the wonderful Kenneth More as the legless fighter ace, the movie featured the stirring theme music played here so brilliantly by the ' Tongue & Groove Big Band' led by Bill Richardson during the special RAF centenary concert and dance held at the RAF Museum Cosford on the 7th July 2018 organised by Gary Lewis.

Posted on the 6th January 2019, the 9th anniversary of Gary's father passing away, the theme from the film was played as the final piece of music at the service.

Gary says " This was one of my late father George Lewis's favourite films, and Dad was stationed at Cosford , so to have it performed there and for me to be standing in front of the band playing it was a truly magical and emotional experience for me, l really hope Dad would have savoured the moment as much as l did".

Gary added  " After the sold out success of the Cosford event and the very positive reaction to it l decided l really didn't want to organise any further events at venues that either wouldn't mean as much to me personally or be as successful and rewarding....so in the centenary year of the Royal Air Force  it was the perfect ending and a real high point to finish on....truly the best of everything.

Watch the band play the theme from the film " 633 Squadron"...
