Casio Wave Ceptor WV-200R Quick Review - An Atomic Time Watch - Budget Friendly - Updated Module

In 2018 I bought two versions of the WV-200 Wave Ceptor watch from Casio. Recently, I bought newer versions, designated WV-200R. The main differences seem to be that the newer modules have "Multiband 5" atomic time reception (the older ones were limited to fewer atomic time sources) and they have replaced the Electro-luminescent backlights with amber-color LED backlights.

The "Multiband 5" technology is designed to allow the watch to receive Atomic Time data from any of 5 transmitters in the northern part of the world. Specifically, they can tune in to long-range radio broadcasts from the UK, Germany, the USA (from radio station WWVB) and from the two in Japan. Several other Casio watches use a technology known as "Multiband 6" which can also receive radio broadcasts from China. The watches are designed to receive from specific Atomic Time stations based on the time zone in which the watch is being used. They will then set themselves to the correct time, right down to the second, and then double-check themselves every night to maintain that accuracy.

In addition to the atomic time feature, these watches have a world time mode (to quickly show the time in a zone other than the "home" time zone), a countdown timer which can be set anywhere from one minute up to one hour., a one-hour stopwatch, one daily alarm and an hourly "chime." It's a simple watch in many respects which means it's usually a good bargain too. The watch is water resistant to 200 meters and can last about three years or more on a lithium CR1620 battery.
