6th August is commemorated as the day on which nuclear attacks were carried out in Japan. Uranium-loaded atomic bombs were used for the first time during the World War II in 1945. On August 6, 1945 (local time 8:15 AM) an atomic bomb called 'Little Boy' was dropped by US on Hiroshima. Three days later, on August 9, US dropped bomb called 'Fat Man' on Nagasaki - another city of Japan. The devastating firestorm destroyed five square miles of the Hiroshima city. Almost 63% of the buildings were destroyed, nearly 92% of the structures were damaged by blast and fire. About 1,40,000 people were killed and those who survived fell 'ill' due to radiation of uranium bombs. Several events take place around the world on Aug 6 pledging devastation like this never happens again.
