On February 25, 2022, five workers were trapped in an underwater pipe for 60 hours. The workers were part of a team that was repairing a pipeline for Paria Fuel Company in Trinidad and Tobago.
The workers were identified as Faizal Kubarn, Kazim Ali, Rishi Nagasar, Yusuf Henri, and Christopher Budrum. They were all experienced divers and had been working for Paria Fuel Company for several years.
The workers were repairing a 1200-foot-long pipeline that was used to transport oil from one platform to another. The pipeline was located in the Gulf of Paria, about 60 miles off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago
The workers were using a habitat to access the pipeline. The habitat was a small, pressurized chamber that allowed the workers to work in the underwater environment.
The workers were repairing a section of the pipeline that was located under water. They were using a cutting torch to remove a section of the pipeline.
As the workers were cutting the pipeline, a piece of metal broke off and struck one of the workers. The worker was injured and began to bleed.
The other workers tried to help the injured worker, but they were unable to stop the bleeding. The worker died from his injuries.
The other four workers were trapped in the habitat. They had no way to escape and they were running out of oxygen.
The workers tried to contact the surface, but they were unable to get a signal. They were trapped in the habitat for 60 hours.
After 60 hours, only one rescued. Others Were all Dead, Later Flushed out from the pipe
The worker was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
The incident is being investigated by the Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Safety and Health Authority. The investigation is ongoing.
