Increasingly, fish are being studied to address fundamental questions concerning how food webs are structured. Over the last century, this data has contributed to a “paradigm shift” away from the ecological conceptualization of "the balance of nature" towards that "the only constant is change." Further out, into the limnetic zone, where life develops and vies, how does such habitat support the regulation of the larger ecosystem; how is ecological diversity regulated?
