Patient Update: Our baby finch patient is over one week old and thriving in our care!

When the eggs were brought to us by a Good Samaritan, who had sadly found the mother bird had passed away, we didn’t know if they would still be viable. We were unsure exactly how long the mother had been away from her nest, and that uncertainty always carries risks. But we knew we had to take the chance—and for this little one, that chance has paid off.

While it seems like this will be the only egg that successfully hatches, this tiny survivor stands as a powerful reminder of why wildlife rehabilitators should push themselves to take on challenges and learn new skills. It is for lives like his.

Our baby finch patient opened his eyes just two days after hatching and is now eagerly gaping for food every 20 minutes, receiving specialized formula and licensed care from our trained team of staff and volunteers. Raising a hatchling like this is a complex, delicate process requiring incredible precision, teamwork, and compassion—and we are honored to give him his fighting chance at life.
