Welcome to Nepal! In this video, I'll explain how you can travel from India to Nepal by crossing the land border.

My journey started from Ahmedabad. After reaching Gorakhpur by train, I took a taxi to Sanauli border for 500 INR (you can get one at 300 INR if you're good at negotiating). From Gorakhpur to Sanauli, it is approx 100 KM and a 2.5 hour taxi ride.

Once you're at the border, you will need to show your Indian photo ID proof like Aadhar/Voter ID card and they will allow you to cross. You do NOT need a visa or passport to enter Nepal as an Indian citizen!

You will also need to have got atleast 1 shot of COVID vaccination and a RT-PCR report. I got away without the report, but you need to have it incase they ask for it.

I stayed overnight at Sanuali and left for Pokhara by a mini bus in the morning. The bus from Sanauli to Pokhara cost me 1000 NPR/625 INR. It was a long and uncomfortable ride. It took me almost 8 hours to reach Pokhara.

Pokhara is the second largest city in Nepal. The beautiful Phewa lake is a big attraction.

I stayed at Forest Lake Hostel, which overlooks the entire Phewa lake. I highly recommend staying there! There are no better hostels than this one in Pokhara. You can get a dorm room which will cost you around 500 NPR (4-6 bed room, depending on availability).

For local transport in Pokhara, you can download an app called Saadhan. It's a new app, but works just like Uber/Ola. You will need a Nepali SIM card to activate the app.

You can also rent a scooter in Pokhara for going on day trips and roaming around. Indian driving license works in Nepal. The scooter will cost you anywhere from 800-1200 NPR for keeping the scooter morning to evening. Petrol costs around 135/litre approx.

Food is a bit expensive in Pokhara compared to Kathmandu. You can find unlimited Nepali for around 200-300 NPR range. If you want to eat a fancier restaurant enjoying a view, I highly recommended going to the Juicer Cafe at the Phew Lake.
