The oldest temple in Miyajima is the Daishoin Temple of the Shingon sect Omuro school (Ninnaji Temple). After Kukai returned from
Tang, he went to Miyajima and practiced at Misen, and opened in 806 AD (the first year of Daido). It is a prestigious temple that has a close
relationship with the imperial family, as a prayer dojo for Emperor Toba's decree, as a place to stay when Emperor Meiji travels, and even when Hideyoshi held a tea ceremony.
This statue is enshrined in the kitchen on the Chancel Sumidan as the principal image of the Daishoin Kannon-do. The neat and clean expression of the face and the abundant flesh are vivid, and the well-proportioned proportions and the face of the overhead Buddhist face are also accurately and carefully finished.
This statue is enshrined in the former Itsukushima Shrine Honjido, and it is known that it was moved to the Daishoin Temple due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the first year of the Meiji era.
