The CRAZIEST and most DRAINING transfer saga: Fabregas to FC Barcelona

Three years of courting, public statements of intent, and accusations of “tapping up” ended with Cesc Fabregas finally joining FC Barcelona in 2011. Having gone through La Masia with FC Barcelona and having grown up as a supporter of the club, the yearning to return to Barcelona and their super team was understandable. However, the way that Barcelona went about their pursuit of Fabregas was out of this world: constant quotes from players such as Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Puyol and Pique; constant quotes from Laporta and Sandro Rosell. It was perhaps the most public pursuit ever, with Barcelona not trying to hide their intentions at all, or that they had been in contact with the player when they didn’t have permission to be.

Then, of course, there was the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the Barcelona shirt incident, as some of the FC Barcelona contingent forced a Barça kit onto Fabregas during the celebrations. This was a wild time, and Arsenal fans would have been happy it finally ended when it did (despite losing a great talent).
