The Toyota Camry Hybrid is the quiet achiever of automotive electrification.

Its hybrid system acts pretty much in the background, helping the mid-size passenger car’s fuel economy drop into mini-car territory.

It also helps out with a bit of extra accelerative performance and noise dampening. What’s not to like?

Here we’re testing the Camry SL, the flagship of a range that dispensed with the V6 engine and went almost entirely hybrid when it was updated last April.

It’s costs than $50,000 by the time you get it on the road, which is a lot for a Camry. But after a drive you might think the value equation makes sense.
