The minister was a hypocrite and he did things such as practicing witchcraft while at the same time preaching against the vice. The minister had sold his life by having a human/snake mermaid that his children killed when they hurriedly fed the mermaid with hot nshima which at the same time killed the minister in front of the pulpit. In summary, We cannot pretend to be righteous and as long our hearts are not aligned with what God wants, our evil tendencies will be made known on the house tops for all to see. As the Bemba proverb says"What is eaten in the dark, will be known by the vomit of the morning.
