Leland Blues | You'd Never Guess How These "Stones" Were Made! Rock Hunting on a Lake Michigan Beach

Well friends, I made it up to Michigan! This is my first of what I hope is quite a few videos while I'm up here visiting family. Of course I'm going to take y'all on the adventures with me! In this video I went with my Mother to a place called Van's Beach in Leland, Michigan. In the late 1800's there was smelting industry here in Leland. The smelting process produces a glassy "slag" like material as a byproduct. The companies would dump this slag into the lake and the wave action has tumbled this slag for over 100 years, polishing the slag into beautiful round "stones". The most popular color seems to be blue, but these stones come in beautiful purples and greens as well! Hope you enjoy the hunt!
