varikassery mana is one of the oldest namboothiri family homes in kerala. this house is located in manissery near ottapalam in palakkad district. the house and ancillary buildings are spread over an area of about 4 acres. this mana is built in the kerala architectural style. the varikkassery mana includes a large house, a pathayapura, a large pool, a bathhouse, a family temple and an entrance.

it is one of the most popular shooting locations for malayalam movies. many super hit movies in malayalam have been shot here. the first film to be shot here was 'theertham' released in 1987. the house and grounds have since been used for several movies.
in the mohanlal starrer 'devasuram', this mana was filmed as 'mangalassery' as the home ground, and it became a popular shooting location here. many hit movies like aaram tampuran, rapakkal, drona, simhasanam, madambi etc. have been shot here.

it is said that the varikassery family, which held a sovereign position in the ashta griha namboothiri families, is centuries old. it is said that it was built in the year 1902 by ravi namboothiri of varikassery. the main building, the pathayapura, the pool, the bathhouse and the temple are all made of red sandstone. the main three-storey building has 74 rooms. visitors can enter the mansion only when there is no film shooting.
