After more than two decades in storage and a multi-million dollar restoration effort, the Norfolk & Western #611 has returned to active service. The “Class J” locomotive was moved from North Carolina back to her Roanoke home, and greeted like a long-lost member of the family. The “Spirit Of Roanoke” began her summer excursion operations with a series of three runs from Manassas to Front Royal, Virginia, on June 6 and June 7, 2015.
