AnimSchool Tips: Building Blocking Part I

Building a blocking pass can mean many things. To some blocking is picking three golden poses and immediately moving into spline, but to others, it can mean blocking so deeply that there is a pose and a key on no less than every 3 frames. But to most blocking isn't about numbers, it isn't about having a pose every “X number of frames, rather it is about building the foundation on which your entire animation will stand. In blocking you are not only able to find your character’s key poses but their personality. In this lecture series, Animschool Instructor Ricky Renna will walk through step by step, how to successfully achieve a stellar blocking pass.

In part 1 of this series, Ricky walks us through how the foundation of a successful animation begins with a thoughtful and intentional blocking pass. Not only will he provide you with important “building blocks” and tools, but he will also review the key to successful posing.
