Hi, I'm Paula Whidden,and I write for FaithfulChoices.com. And I've got a faithful choice for you today. It has to do with friendships, you know the kind that maybe need to go. See, this is my garden. My garden looks like it's growing pretty good. But, it's not all that it seems. See, these big things to my sides are tomato plants. And tomatoes grow great and wonderful in the summer, but this isn't the summer anymore. It's starting to get cold and they are going to die.
How do I know? I've done this before. Some years I've tried to let them grow. I've tried really hard to keep them growing and feed them and care for them. And yet they die, because they have their season, they have a right time to grow.
(1:01)And in our friendships, some of them are dying. Some of 'em have lived through their season and it's time to uproot so as to make space for other friendships and that is a tough, tough thing to think about. But, I'm learning, in gardening, you've got to do the tough things. You gotta be willing to get rid of the old to make way for the new.
(1:34)So, you can choose to be proactive in friendships. You can choose to get rid of the old and make way for the new. And who knows, maybe you'll find something that's been there all along. It just needs a little more care too.
(1:50)So, are you wondering when I was going to talk with you about the Bible? I'm ready. The Bible tells us that there's a time and purpose for everything under heaven. In Ecclesiastes 3, it says "there is a time to plant and a time...to uproot."
(2:13)Ah, come out of there you! It's time to uproot! Ah, woo, ha ha. Okay then.
(2:29)In our friendships, sometimes we're planting and sometimes we're uprooting, so we can make way for the new.
(2:41)And I gotta tell you something. Hidden under all those where some pretty plants. I've got some dill and some rosemary. Those last a long time (2:51). They don't just go one season. But they couldn't really see the light of day under those tomatoes. You may discover, when you uproot the old, there was someone waiting there all along, just waiting to shine (3:03).
(3:03)By the way, this garden isn't done. It's not ready for planting yet. A lot more has to go into it.
