Cannibal Corpse - Disfigured - Guitar Cover (+Tabs)

There it is, at long last, my cover of Disfigured by Cannibal Corpse! This has by far been the most requested song so to celebrate my 100th video, almost 3 years of posting covers and recently reaching 3k subscribers, it seemed fitting to cover this monster track!

Disfigured could be dubbed the Diminished Song as 99% of it is based around the diminished chord. Minor third, tritone galore! As I mentioned in a previous post, every tab out there is incomplete or flat-out wrong, so I endeavoured to correct that. I watched what little footage there is of both Jack and Rob playing it in 1996/1997 and more recent footage of Rob and Pat playing it to make sure I got it as accurate as possible. You’ll find a link to the tabs below.

You’ll notice that unlike in some other covers out there, I play most of this song in alternate picking: whilst much less challenging than in straight down picking, it is the way Rob and Jack played it live, so this is the way I’ve played it too. The other main thing is the whammy fills at the end of the song. I believe them to be controlled feedback. For the sake of my relationship with my neighbours, I opted to recreate that using natural harmonics and tried my best to soften or eliminate the pick attack, and that’s what I came up with.

Building the tone revolved around the AXP Flextron emulating the Ampeg VHT-140C (the amp used on the record), boosted by the Mercuriall Tube Screamer and finally STL’s NadIR impulse responses to provide a lively cab simulation. All of these plugins are free and you can find them online.
