The Cornwallis Road railroad crossing near Miami Boulevard will be made safer, and the surrounding area more accessible, for bicyclists and pedestrians. The project is included in the NCDOT’s efforts to eliminate unsafe at-grade rail-highway crossings along heavily used railroad corridors. As part of the work, a bridge will be built over both the railroad line and Miami Boulevard. The project will include new sidewalks, multi-use paths along Miami Boulevard, and a safety fence on the bridge.
The path and sidewalk are expected to improve transportation options and connectivity in the surrounding community by providing more opportunities for walking and bicycling. The black vinyl safety fencing will protect pedestrians and cyclists using the bridge and improve the aesthetics along the corridor. The total cost for our part of the project will be approximately $56,000. More information about all current and planned transportation projects can be found at Durham NC dot gov slash 3034.
