Deep Talks: Operating America’s Underground Laboratory; hoists, shafts, rigging, and controls

Join SURF’s March 2024 Deep Talks event with Mike Headley, SDSTA Executive Director and Laboratory Director at SURF for his annual lab update with a special focus from SURF experts on hoists, shafts, rigging, and the operations and control system.

This year Mike Headley will be joined by:

Wendy Straub, Director of Hoists & Shafts at SURF with an update on the work being done in the Ross and Yates shafts and hoists.

Jeff Barthel, Rigging Specialist at SURF, who will speak on rigging and hoisting payloads from sensitive science experiments to large steel beams down the mile deep shafts at SURF

Dale Curran, SURF System Integrator, who will outline the distributed control system at SURF and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition processes at SURF.

Deep Talks begin each month with a social hour from 5-6:00 p.m. and includes free food and beverages. The talk runs from 6-7:00 p.m. and takes place at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center in Lead.
