A new class action lawsuit has been filed in California against Spotify by rapper Eric “RBX” Collins. He claims Spotify let fake “bot” accounts boost the number of times certain songs were played, especially music by Drake, and that this hurt other artists who earn royalties based on real streams. The lawsuit says Spotify either ignored or failed to stop the use of bots that played Drake’s songs over and over, sometimes using VPNs to hide where the plays were coming from. These fake streams reportedly made it look like Drake had more listeners than he really did, while reducing payments to smaller artists whose music was streamed by real people.

RBX argues that Spotify could have detected and stopped this activity but didn’t, because more total streams made the company look more successful to investors and advertisers. The lawsuit also says Spotify’s fraud prevention policies, introduced in 2024 and 2025, were too late and too weak to fix the problem. RBX is asking the court to let other artists join the case and to make Spotify pay back the money they lost, along with damages and an order requiring the company to fix its system for detecting fake streams.
