Asiatic Lion: The Last Kings of Indian Jungle

Описание к видео Asiatic Lion: The Last Kings of Indian Jungle

The Asiatic lion, is a magnificent subspecies, slightly smaller than its African cousins but no less impressive. With its distinctive, shorter mane and muscular build, this lion once roamed from the Middle East to India.

Until the middle of the 19th century, Asiatic lion thrived in the country of Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Indian and parts of Bangladesh.

In the early 1900s, Asiatic lions were on the brink of extinction, with less than 20 individuals left due to hunting and habitat loss. But the efforts of local Indian rulers and conservationists, the Gir Forest became their last refuge.

Today, over 600 lions roam the Gir Forest, a remarkable comeback. Conservation programs, protection from poaching, and habitat preservation have all played a part in their recovery.
