Описание к видео Learning to See Unseen Communities | Pam Mines | TEDxRVA

There are some laws that just make sense. As the mother of a son with autism, Pam Mines wanted to do something for her son in honor of him not in memory of him. She wants us all to respect, consider, and remember all communities—Those that are easily seen and those which are unseen.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. It was filmed and edited by Tijo Media at the Carpenter Theatre at Dominion Arts Center in Richmond, VA.

#JPsLaw #autism

Pam Mines, the mother of a boy with autism, wrote an interactive children’s book entitled “God Chose Me” to encourage others and tell them that being born with special needs is not an accident, a punishment, or a curse.

In 2013, she founded the JP JumPers Foundation, a nonprofit organization to help families affected by autism, special needs, and unique circumstances. Her advocacy was key in getting “JP’s Law” passed by the Virginia General Assembly in 2014. The law created a voluntary designation on state-issued licenses and identification cards for people with Autism or an intellectual disability. At TEDxRVA, she plans to convey that people don’t have to wait for something tragic to happen before initiating a proactive change.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
