The present name Tayud is taken from the time when many Muslim raiders(moro) attacked the area frequently. Because the place was located at the seacoast and many old harbors such as the ones at Bagakay and Bahabaha, it was very susceptible to the raids of the Muslim Marauders who captured men, women, children. Anyone who attempted to escape them were hurled with spears or shot with arrows. "Tayuran" was said to be the local word used to describe one who has hit, with the weapon still attached to the body. According to popular belief, the name "Tayuran" was first given specifically to the sea-leading trail where Muslims waited for unsuspecting natives; later on it was used as the name for the entire barangay.
