Squatters must now demonstrate that they have a right to be on the property, shifting the burden of proof onto them rather than the property owner. The law also states that squatters are entitled to due process, meaning owners cannot use self-help eviction methods but must go through the legal system to remove squatters

Additionally, the law includes measures to prevent property owners from misusing these provisions against legitimate tenants. If an owner wrongfully evicts someone, the victim can seek damages, including triple the rent value, court costs, and attorney fees.
