On November 14, Congressman Leo Ryan journeyed to Guyana, South America on a fact finding mission to investigate reports that Jim Jones, the leader of the Peoples Temple, was holding Americans against their will in Jonestown. The footage you are about to see was shot by the NBC crew that accompanied Leo Ryan to Jonestown.

On November 18, Congressman Leo Ryan was assassinated. Not long after 913 people in Jonestown died in a mass murder/suicide.

At the command of their charismatic leader Reverend Jim Jones, 909 members of the Peoples Temple Agricultural Project lost their lives. Some believed they were committing a revolutionary act of suicide, others were forced or coerced by the group.

Also killed on the airstrip with Ryan was Patricia Parks, Don Harris, Greg Robinson, and Bob Brown.

Sharon Amos, Liane Harris, Christa Amos, and Martin Amos died in a murder suicide in Georgetown Guyana.
