A local couple is living out their own Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce fairy tale.

The music superstar posted on Instagram, writing, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married." Goshen High School already has its version of a married English and PE teacher.

Jerry Settelmayer knew that Gloria Settelmayer belonged with him. She was a sophomore, and he was a junior at Goshen High School. Gloria Settelmayer said that her friend pointed him out during gym class.

"He's playing basketball on the court, and she's like, 'He's kind of cute. You should go play basketball against him.' And I did. We played one-on-one, and I think he asked me out a couple days later," said Gloria Settelmayer.

Their first date was at his parents' house playing basketball in the driveway. Jerry Settelmayer said that his mom loved Gloria Settelmayer the minute they met.

"Gloria met-- she checked all the boxes," said Jerry Settelmayer.

Jerry Settelmayer said he had to be fearless to ask her out.

"Back in high school, you had to make sure she—I had to have some inkling that she would like say yes, because," Jerry Settelmayer said.

"He didn't want to get turned down," Gloria Settelmayer said.

"Once I heard there was a chance, I did ask her out," Jerry Settelmayer said.

They dated through college and got married a week after graduation. The Settelmayers celebrated 20 years in May.

"He was always very honest and very transparent, and he was fun to be around. I enjoyed his company, and I don't know, I could confide in him, and he's always been like my best friend," Gloria Settelmayer said.

"She was super easygoing and laid back. And I am too, so I don't know; it just was always so easy, like, I didn't want anything else," Jerry Settelmayer said.

The two got their teaching start in Blanchester. Jerry Settelmayer says he was inspired by his high school basketball coach, and Gloria Settelmayer wanted to share her passion for reading and writing.

"Books, for me, serve as mirrors and windows, and writing is an outlet. It's therapeutic, and it can effect some change," Gloria Settelmayer said.

So, when Swift and Kelce announced their engagement, Gloria Settelmayer said she thought it was adorable even though their kids are the real Swifties. They never expected their love story to be shared by the school.

"It just makes me appreciate more the school we work in, the district we work in, and our community," Gloria Settelmayer said.

Their advice to the newly engaged couple.

"When she says [something], I'm like, 'You know what? Maybe, maybe you're right.' Giving in a little bit, I would say, helps," Jerry Settelmayer said.

"You have gotten a lot better about that as we've gotten older. You're very reflective," Gloria Settelmayer said.

"I know," Jerry Settelmayer said.

Gloria Settelmayer says her dad really did say, "Stay away from Juliet," a lyric to one of Swift's songs, but he eventually warmed up to Jerry Settelmayer.

Jerry Settelmayer and Gloria Settelmayer aren't alone in their match. Mason High School gym teacher Brian Castner and intermediate English teacher Andrea Castner are celebrating 21 years of marriage.
