Home video of Australian Prime Minister's Science Prize ceremony - the politicians' speeches, 30th October 2013: My wife's brother, Professor Terry Speed, was the principal recipient of this year's award, presented at Parliament House in Canberra. His work on the mathematics/statistics of DNA mapping, including the treatment of thyroid cancers, was officially recognised via the Prime Minister's award. Consequently, his family (including myself) all were flown to Canberra from Melbourne to be present at this career highlight for Terry. This HD video documents the taxi ride into Parliament House, entry into the Great Hall for the celebration dinner, speeches by MC Adam Spencer; by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott (who praised Terry's work); and by industry minister Ian Macfarlane. Professor Terry Speed's acceptance speech will be on the THIRD clip in this series. I shot the speeches on a tiny Sony camera, far from the podium, and I could not hold the camera absolutely steady for long periods on the necessary maximum zoom extension.
