Thousands of Rwandans who had sought refuge in Burundi are now in transit camps in their homeland as they begin to make their way back to the homes they fled two years ago. Some 30,000 refugees are being forced to return to Rwanda as the Burundese army closes their camps near the border. It's believed that only half this number have been repatriated--meaning up to 15,000 refugees have fled to the mountains.
At a transit centre in Butare, southern Rwanda, the United Nations is attempting to to supply nearly 10,000 refugees with basic food and shelter.
