My wife, Manisha, did quite a bit of work before the meeting to put her father's concerns at ease. It's natural for Indian parents to be a little worried about their daughter or son bringing a foreigner home. Her father had many questions for her before I met them.

When I arrived there 3 things I specifically did to make a good impression. I wore Indian clothing, I greeted her parents in their language, and I bent forward and touched their feet. Wherever your girlfriend or boyfriend is from in India, make sure you asked them what cultural rituals you should follow when meeting their parents. My wife actually told me not to do all that, but as you'll hear, it really did make the difference and broke the ice.
