Hatis Noit (live @Le Guess Who? 2022)

Japanese singer Hatis Noit recorded her first full-length album this year. She sings a number of songs from 'Aura' during this session, recorded during ‪@leguesswhofestival‬ In Utrecht’

Aura' is about self-reflection and is a reflection of the joys and blessings of existence, the preciousness of life.
‪@hatisnoit‬ who now resides in London, was sixteen years old when she made a trek through Nepal. There, in a temple, she heard female monks singing religious chants. Her accomplished range is astonishingly self-taught, inspired by Gagaku — Japanese classical music — and operatic styles, Bulgarian and Gregorian chanting, to avant-garde and pop vocalists. Her transcendent vocal interpretations deconstruct and recombine Western Classical, Japanese folk and nature’s own ambient atmosphere.
Hatis Noit: “I always imagine a time when we have not got language. Before language how did we perceive the world? When I make music, I try to go back to that time. But obviously, growing up speaking Japanese shaped the way I listen to sounds and I have some sort of basic systems of the sounds I am used to.
