The world's fastest NA 3rd gen Maxima now becomes the the world's first VQ35DE Swap in a 3rd gen Maxima (89-94) with FULL ECU wiring!

This is the very first time the engine was turned over after a 6 month engine build up. No rattling or ticking was heard at any point of the initial startup. Permatex Ultra Slick Engine assembly lube was used and timing chain tensioners were snug during installation.

A few seconds after the engine fired up, a camshaft break in procedure was done by holding the engine at 1800rpm for at least 10-15 minutes. The battery charger was not putting out enough power to run the engine, so it stalled after the engine ran for about 13 minutes, which is good enough. The alternator was hooked up later. The engine also is running with open headers since custom Ypipe will need to be made.

VQ35DE Engine Build Specs (Engine from 02 Maxima w/ 49K miles):
NWP Engineering Headwork (intake and exhaust port and polish, smoothed short side radii, valve seats lapped, heads resurfaced, intake ports matched to manifold)
JDM Camshafts
VQ35HR Valve Springs (dbl shimmed for 1mm extra)
VQ35HR Valve Spring Retainers
VQ35HR Head Gaskets w/ coolant passage modified on block (Thanks to JWT for that article)
VQ35HR Head Bolts
ARP Rod Bolts
Rev Up Oil Pump
New Valve Stem Seals
Engine received all new seals and gaskets
eBay Headers for Altima 3.5L (requires modification to fit)
NWP Engineering VQ35DE Thermal Intake Manifold Spacer Kit
NWP Engineering Intake Port Matching on all manifolds (lower, upper, and elbow)
NWP Engineering Throttle Body Ported and Polished

Engine is expected to put down around 260-270whp. This is about a 100hp increase compared to what the old VE30DE engine put to the ground while it ran 13.7s ALL MOTOR.

This engine build was specifically done for MAXUS 09, the largest Maxima enthusiast event in the world. The car will be there all weekend and will be racing in the ALL MOTOR MAXIMA UNLIMITED class. This year, the event happens in Washington DC on the weekend of June 26-28th, 2009. Bring out your Maxima for a weekend full of racing, car shows, dyno competitions, good food, and free prizes!
