Did You Know Spiting Was A Form Of Greeting?

Описание к видео Did You Know Spiting Was A Form Of Greeting?

Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania believe that spitting (oltepesi) is a traditional way of greeting and showing respect. For them, it’s not seen as rude but rather as a blessing or sign of goodwill.

When Maasai greet each other, especially elders or someone they highly respect, they might spit lightly on their hand before shaking hands. In some cases, parents will spit on newborns to wish them a life filled with good fortune. Even during weddings, a father may spit on his daughter’s head as a blessing before she leaves with her new husband.
