The 1962 landmark publication that led to a brand new way of viewing the nature of scientific development. Hard to categorise at the time, it is perhaps best seen as creating a new sub-discipline that can be called the ‘sociology of scientific development’ (although that description is inadequate in a number of ways). It is an important contribution to the understanding of the nature of scientific development - and to the nature of science itself!
