'Vachana' is a prominent type of Kannada poetry .It literally means 'that which is said'.Vachanas have been composed by Shivasharanas (refugees of Lord Shiva) like Basavanna , Akkamahadevi and Allamaprabhu.

'Ullavaru' is a pithy 'Vachana' composed by Basavanna.
In this he says 'Ullavaru Shivaalaya Maaduvaru' - The people who can afford to or the people who are rich can build a temple for Lord Shiva,
'Naanenu Maadali , Badavanayya'- What can I do , I am poor.
'Enna Kaale Kambavayya' - My legs are the pillars(of the temple)
'Dehave Degula' - My body is the shrine
'Shirave Honna Kalashavayya' - My head is the golden Gopuram (Tower of the Temple)
'Sthaavarakkalivunu , Jangamakkalivilla'- Things that are stationary meet an end , there is no destruction to things that move(intellectual wealth)
'Koodala Sangama Deva , Kelayya' - Listen ! Oh Koodala Sangama Deva!
