In today’s episode, we had the privilege of attending a unique "Unnetwork" event hosted by Hannah Flostrand, an educator at Langara College who works closely with international students. As the child of immigrants herself, Hannah deeply understands the challenges newcomers face when navigating the Canadian job market.

Hannah emphasized the critical importance of building a professional network—what she refers to as the "ecosystem" of connections. While resumes and cover letters are vital tools in the job search, she highlighted that networking is often the biggest challenge for newcomers. It’s this network that truly opens doors and helps navigate the complexities of the work system in a new country.

Hannah is launching a beautiful initiative called "Unnetworking Events," aimed at helping newcomers build long-lasting, meaningful connections. In this session, she was joined by three amazing guests:

Bárbara Cacas: Marketing Manager for an engineering company, who emphasized the importance of leveraging your background and work experience from your home country, assuring newcomers that they don’t need to start from scratch.

María José Martínez: An Industrial Designer who, after a successful career working with high-profile businesses, decided to shift her professional path. Now, she works as a coach specializing in personal development and emotional intelligence.

Azadeh Mehrya: An artist who, after overcoming many challenges upon moving to Canada, decided to change her career from software development to follow her passion for art.
