The company which controls Plymouth’s disused airport has denied it has breached the lease and said it plans to build houses on the site. Sutton Harbour Group Plc this morning said it expects to submit a masterplan for the 113-acre site which will see homes and other buildings on the land in the next five years - but not on the runway.

However, the company said that if no one comes up with a viable plan to restart flights it will then build on the runway. The company said it is willing to restart talks with freeholder Plymouth City Council and asked it to set aside threatened legal action but warned it would “robustly defend” its long-leasehold interest in the land should it need to do so.
