RARE FOOTAGE - Silverback Mountain Gorilla Mating in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

The Habinyanja gorilla family is accessed from the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This special family has a long history, and it was one of the first habituated gorillas familes in Uganda.

After a challenging trek, we met this family of 18 individuals, including a baby of just 3 weeks old, in a small clearing. We were incredibly lucky to witness the silverback mating just a few feet away from us.

For our Ranger, Florence, and the trackers and porters, this was a very unusual sighting. This is habituation and wildlife tourism at it's finest. We were so well cared for and brought right into the truly intimate lives of these majestic animals.
